Joselyn Dumas |
Renowned Ghanaian TV host and actress, Joselyn Dumas, has refuted claims
that her looks got her into the spot light.
Speaking to Citi Showbiz, Joselyn Dumas who has starred in some
award winning films such as Adams Apples and Silver Rain,
asserts that she is surprised that people still latch onto the
notion that because a woman is pretty, it means that she doesn’t have brains in
her head.
She added that she has always strived to be the best that she can be
and that this attitude has helped her a lot.
With regards to her role in Shampaign, Joselyn says that it was
quite interesting that Shirley Frimpong-Manso gave her such a political role,
but she worked tirelessly to embody the character, in order to make it as
believable as possible.
“The fact that you are pretty does
not mean [that] you don’t have brains in your head. There are beautiful women
out there with big brains! I’m an actress, it’s a job and it was quite
interesting that Shirley gave me [a political] role to play. I took the job
home, I read tirelessly, I watched a lot of political movies to make the
character as believable as possible, but at the same time I would like to think
of myself as a strong, black, African woman, who against all odds strives to be
the best that she can be.”
Joselyn is competing with Lynn
Bentil and Kabuki Akiwomi, who both star in the Shampaign series, for
the Golden Actress award. Other nominees in the category are Maame Yaa
Boafo, P. Fella Makafui, Nikki Samonas, and Jasmine Baroudi.
