Students of Cape coast polytechnic went on rampage
as government excluded the school from the list of six polytechnics to be converted
into technical universities.
‘If they are not
ready to do anything about it, we will go as far as possible in making sure
that government hears us out. This is just a preparation in readiness for an
upcoming massive demonstration as we are going to hit the streets of Cape coast
by next week’, a student protester told BLG.
Protests were
held across the campus of Cape Coast Polytechnic in response to government’s
exclusion from the process of converting traditional polytechnics to fully
fledged Universities. Students talked about the the various successes the
polytechnic had chalked amongst a host of other sterling recognitions.
The school
Rector was prevented from attending an important meeting in the morning, as
displeased and angry students blocked the entrance of his residence.
Students
continued with their demonstrations on school authorities as they were blamed
for not doing enough to get the school to be included in the first group of polytechnics
to be raised to university level.
