CIRCLE INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION AFFECTS BUSINESSES
The Kwame Nkrumah circle is a key intersection in the arterial road network of Accra which carries about 84,000 vehicles daily. The idea of constructing an interchange at circle brought smiles on faces of Ghanaians in that, traffic jam will be minimized as well as stimulating local economic growth. But little did one know that, this construction will affect work output especially those who uses that road.
According to Ing. Alphonse Owusu Adomah of RHDHV Ghana, economically, the construction of the interchange will reduce traffic jam at circle to enable workers utilize their travel time.
He added that, the aftermath of the construction would be the redecoration of Accra and ease traffic congestion. “ This traffic congestion at circle due to the construction affects our business output because, one has to spend a lot of time in the traffic and that will result in underusing of the stipulated time for work”, he added.
He also said that, the construction does not only affect those who use the road but also the relocated shops. And so, customers have to spend extra effort in locating these shops.
‘The traffic jam at circle is just for a short term but after the construction, the interchange will provide a jam-free traffic for workers in the long term’ says Mr. Owusu Adomah.
