DUMSOR AND BUSINESS PRODUCTIVITY
The power crisis which has bedeviled the country is not only giving sleep discomfort but also affecting business productivity. “Dumsor” as it is popularly called has now become the worry of businesses.
Businesses that use electricity now have to incur extra cost for diesel to be able to execute their work. Those who cannot afford fueling generators have no option than to shut down their operations.
Speaking to some shop owners, hairdressers and seamstresses, they disclosed to B&LG that, they cannot test fridges and televisions for customers as well as hairdressers and seamstresses being unable to sow dresses and do the hairs of the their respective customers.
BLG in an exclusive interview with Miss Deborah Ayeh of Okera Inn Hotel revealed that, management buys Gh¢2,000.00 worth of diesel every week in a bid to satisfy their customers. This situation is affecting their profit as well as hindering management to increase salaries and to employ more workers.
On the other side, small scale businesses that deal in charging of phones at lorry stations disclosed that, business is booming resulting from the recent power crisis. They hoped that in all these, things will work out and power crisis will be curbed.
